2022 BMI Mexico Market Report: Mexico Sees Clear Signs of Recruitment Growth
W While English speaking destinations have always been high on choice for most international students, a recent BMI Mexico Market report has some interesting facts. The report, published recently states that Mexican students are very open to choosing non-English countries as a destination to complete education.
The goal of the report is to assist institutions in "understanding the strength of Mexico as an international education market and source of student recruitment," It also aims to pinpointing market trends and potential locations for enrolment.
…the country’s growing middle class and youth population give clear signs of increasing potential for international education…
The BMI Mexico Market Report cites ‘appetite for adventure and global curiosity’, and affordable education are two major factors why Mexican students are open to studying in Latin American countries. If you go by the numbers of the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions in Spanish, you will find that the total university enrolment in the country has nearly doubled in the last 13 years. This is an example of how Mexicans are choosing other destinations over traditional ones.
Speaking to the media, a resource from BMI said, “The country’s growing middle class and youth population give clear signs of increasing potential for international education.” The resource further added, “Independent organisations such as FUNED continue to provide scholarships and encourage mobility overseas, offering 110 postgraduate scholarships in 2020.”
Experts that prepared the report said, “Many Mexican students are looking to non-Spanish speaking countries as their study destination because it provides them with a well-rounded experience that includes language immersion and greater cultural differences.” The report also found that Mexicans are not just looking for Latin American nations as a study destination, Australia too is one of the top choices.
A section in the report read, “Australia has seen steady growth, mainly led by its VET sector however its secondary school Mexican enrolments lag behind those of New Zealand and Ireland (much further behind than we’d expect).” The report further found that China continues to be a competitor destination for international students.
While Mexican students prefer to go to countries like Spain because of the language and similar culture, Mexicans have a growing interest in French culture, language, history and society, a recruitment specialist highlighted.
