After Third Round of FYJC Admission: Maharashtra Sees Over 2 Lakh Vacant Seats
A At the conclusion of the third round of the Centralised Admission Process, more than 2 lakh of the 3.7 lakh seats in the First Year Junior College (FYJC = Class XI) remain unfilled (CAP). Sources have said that more than 1.4 lakh seats will become available for the special round of admission, which will be the last CAP round. The rest of the seats are for quota admissions, including those under in-house, minority or management quotas.
In the third round as well, a smaller number of applicants confirmed their acceptance for the seats allotted. Seats were allotted to 50,769 candidates in total, but only 18,942 admissions were confirmed.
…along with CAP rounds, quota admissions are taking place simultaneously at individual college levels…
According to statistics, 28,272 candidates did not show up for their assigned seats, 4,257 of whom were those who were given seats in their first-choice college but still declined admission.
Only 24,146 of the 69,691 candidates who received seats in the second round had their admissions confirmed, compared to 67,963 in the first round out of a total of 1,39,651 allotments.
"Along with CAP rounds, quota admissions are taking place simultaneously at individual college levels," a press representative from the office of the Deputy Director of Education, Mumbai, which manages the online CAP admissions for FYJC, stated. Through this process, some applicants validate their acceptance to desired colleges.
Education officials from the government have urged students to now apply for seats on merit, as the special FYJC admission round is now over. “Even as some of them may have taken admission on quota seats, there is a significant number, who would be hoping to get a seat in this special round,” added an official. Sources have said that a total of 1,08,596 candidates are not yet admitted to any junior college as yet.
