Australian Centre for Education Opens Sixth Centre in Cambodia
T The Australian Centre for Education has unveiled a brand-new campus in the nation's capital with room for 8,000 students. Both the Cambodian Minister of Education, Youth, and Sport, Hang Chuon Naron, and Australian Foreign Minister Senator Penny Wong were present for the opening of ACE's sixth campus in the country, which is located in Chak Angre.
Prime Minister Hun Sen and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn were both present when the Australian Foreign Minister met them. "Since 1992, ACE has played a crucial role in the development of English language education for Cambodian students, government officials, and professionals at various levels," said Hang Chuon Naron at the school's opening.
…around 10,000 Cambodians have been placed into quality schools and universities overseas by our study abroad office…
The foreign minister of Australia said in a statement to the media that Prime Minister Paul Keating and one of Wong's predecessors, Foreign Minister Gareth Evans, "understood the importance of the region we share" thirty years ago. So, standing beside the Bassac River, a significant branch of the Mekong, this new campus will give even more young people, including those present today, the English skills they need to take advantage of opportunities as global citizens, the speaker continued. It serves as a reminder of the area where we all share a common future.
More than half a million students from more than 20 different nationalities have attended ACE schools over the course of 30 years, according to Mao Sreng, the country director for ACE and IDP Education, who was also present at the event on August 4.
He added that the IDP Study Abroad Resource Centre and the IELTS Cambodia Official Test Centre are accessible to the 2,000 students who attend the campus, which was formerly a garment factory. Mr. Mao Sreng also added, “Around 10,000 Cambodians have been placed into quality schools and universities overseas by our study abroad office.”
While the renovations were finished prior to COVID-19, the pandemic forced the closure of schools all over Cambodia. Later, the structure served as a vaccination centre where about 10,000 residents of the neighbourhood received vaccinations.
Speaking to the media, Sreng said that IDP founded ACE in 1992 and that it is "second to none in Cambodia" and that there is a huge demand for English language instruction there.
