CHLOE 7: Survey Finds Shift Towards Hybrid Education by 2025
T The Eduventures CHLOE 7 Report demonstrates how attitudes toward online learning have changed since the coronavirus first started to spread and how restrictions have since been loosened. According to the survey that always seems to track trends in online education, the majority of chief online officers polled predicted that by 2025, the undergraduate experience will include at least some online components.
Only 18% of chief online officers in the survey said they had used a service package from an OPM (online programme management company). These companies offer a variety of services to help colleges launch and maintain their online programmes, including faculty development, course design, and student recruitment.
…they were so clear that the pandemic really had accelerated this shift, but it was hybrid rather than online that was emerging as the way forward…
Richard Garrett, chief research officer for Eduventures and one of the report’s authors, speaking about the survey results said, “They were so clear that the pandemic really had accelerated this shift, but it was hybrid rather than online that was emerging as the way forward.”
According to the report, higher education leaders are giving content quality more consideration than convenience when deciding on course modalities, Garrett continued.
The results of the survey also demonstrate how many institutions have created online businesses. The majority of chief online officers asserted that all online services, including advising, tutoring, and student recruitment, were managed internally rather than through outsourcing.
In January and February, chief online officers responded to the survey online. Results are based on 67 partial responses and 244 complete responses.
