China Set to Welcome International Students Back?
C China is working on a plan that will see Indian and Pakistani students re-enter China. The move allows students to complete pending courses that had been in limbo after the recent lockdown measures were announced. The news broke out after a meeting between Pakistani Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Acting Ambassador of China Peng Chonzoi.
After the meeting, the following statement was released, "We are working on resolving the issue of completion of the student degree program. In the first phase, visas are being issued to 200 students."

In keeping with China’s zero-covid case policy, most of the country was in lockdown, this caused tremendous stress to students from India and Pakistan who were left in limbo. However, now that China is planning on opening a pathway to the students, many are happy. One such student is Waseem, a clinical medicine student. His course was cut short after lockdown measures were imposed. Speaking to the media, he said, “I really miss that beautiful life on campus, taking offline classes and studying with friends, but online I am suffering a lot because of the time difference.”
Sources say that nearly 200 visas are to be granted to Pakistani students to complete studies in China and “work has begun” on allowing Indian students to also re-enter the country. Although a small number, the new phase is seen as a positive sign for students hoping to re-enter China.
While the news of international students returning to China is good, there seems to be some red flags. Sources say that in many places such as Lijian, covid is still in red. This means that the threat of Covid hasn’t fully gone. Authorities have urged students to keep a track of the situation constantly.
