Compass UOL To Train 15,000 Computer Science Students Worldwide in Cloud Programming and Generative AI Tools
C Compass UOL, a digital services company, has recently announced its plan to expand its investment in the Compass Academy training initiative to train 15,000 computer science students worldwide. The primary objective of this expansion is to teach students how to program cloud platforms and use engineering on generative AI tools through Compass UOL's AI-assisted software engineering approach.
The training courses will prepare students to work with Amazon Web Services (AWS) on significant digital transformation projects for global enterprises, including those in financial services, consumer goods, and healthcare.
Compass Academy is not new to the game, having granted over 2,600 scholarships since 2013, in partnership with 100 universities across 180 editions. In this new expansion, Compass UOL intends to partner with more US and international universities to reach underserved communities and provide job and career opportunities.
The University of Port Harcourt in Nigeria is the latest partner to join Compass Academy, following a five-month training pattern in two levels - foundational and advanced. The foundational level covers programming languages Node and React and the use of prompt engineering on generative AI tools to develop software. Outstanding students will take two additional months of preparation before their AWS certification exams in October.

The AWS Communities program is co-funding Compass Academy's expansion to reach underprivileged students worldwide. AWS certifications are highly sought after in the industry, as they demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of cloud systems, independent of a specific job role. According to a survey conducted by education technology company Skillsoft, the ability to program e-commerce, marketing, and sales systems to run on the cloud is the top technology skill companies are looking for, making this training initiative even more relevant and in demand.
According to Compass UOL CEO Alexis Rockenbach, the company's Compass Academy started with only 150 people, but now has 6,000, mostly consisting of software developers, including some of Compass UOL's top leaders who are program graduates. Rockenbach expressed the company's commitment to continue hiring Compass Academy students, citing their adaptability skills, as the future remains uncertain.
