Delhi University Vice Chancellor: UG Curriculum Won’t Impact Teacher Workload
A After teachers, particularly those in the English department, claimed that the existing workload would be reduced by nearly 30 to 40 percent, the DU Vice Chancellor refuted the charges in a statement to the press. In a media interview, Yogesh Singh, Vice Chancellor of Delhi University, refuted claims that the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework will lighten teachers' workloads and claimed that the subject is "politicised".
The UGCF, developed under the New Education Policy (NEP), 2020, will be implemented beginning with the 2022–2023 academic year. According to teachers, especially those from the English department, there would be a significant reduction in workload of almost 30 to 40 percent, according to teachers.
…there will be no displacement of teachers, it is easy to politicise issues… When the three-year course will be done in four years, how will the workload be reduced?
Speaking to the media, the DU Vice Chancellor said, "The government has brought some reform and we should welcome it." There will be no displacement of teachers, "Delhi University Vice Chancellor told a newspaper in an interview earlier this week. "It is easy to politicise issues. How will the workload be reduced when the three-year course is done in four years? " Vice Chancellor Singh stated that the four-year programme, not a single year, would be used to determine the workload.
Additionally, Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh stated, "No teacher will be fired, according to a resolution passed by the Executive Council." The four-year undergraduate programme will serve as the foundation for any administrative decisions.
Yogesh Singh, the vice chancellor, also addressed the criticism of the Multiple Entry and Exit Scheme (MEES), which has been the subject of claims by some teachers that it will result in a rise in dropout rates, particularly among women. Why will a student leave if you deliver your lessons effectively? The issue has been politicised in this way, "said Singh.
