Destination Gold Coast Delegation on Europe Tour to Promote Gold Coast Region to The World
M Mayor Tom Tate was part of a Gold Coast, Queensland, delegation that travelled to London to promote the main benefits and reasons for studying and travelling to the Gold Coast. On tour, the delegation discussed specifics regarding post-study work rights for international students in addition to highlighting the "beautiful lifestyle" and "desirable living conditions" the Gold Coast has to offer, such as Southern Cross University's campus being 400 metres from the beach.
While speaking about the trip, Rob Borbidge, chairman of Study Gold Coast, told the media that a very significant benefit that the city of Gold Coast has over most other cities in Australia is in regard to post-study work rights. "We are the number one regional study destination and that means that international graduates enjoy up to four years of post-study work rights – something that our capital cities can’t offer." he added.
…we are the number one regional study destination and that means that international graduates enjoy up to four years of post-study work rights – something that our capital cities can’t offer…
Rob Borbidge, chairman of Study Gold Coast explained that priority visa processing is one of the "unique advantages" that the city enjoys as a result of its regional status, an advantage they were able to negotiate with the Australian government.
There are also a lot of options for students who want to work while they are in school. Since 2020, the student jobs platform at Study Gold Coast has connected employers and students with success, he added.
The delegation emphasised the outstanding student assistance and support that the city provided to foreign students throughout the pandemic.
Borbidge thinks that the fact that the number of international students in the area is now approaching pre-pandemic levels "demonstrates that in terms of our community, we are very much a caring community that looks after our visitors, whether they may be students or tourists."
