Facebook to Add Video-Course Features: Ed Tech Companies Worried About Old Fears?
A According to sources, Tech giant Meta is planning to introduce video class features for users. Meta, formerly Facebook, has been experimenting with Facebook Classes, a programme designed to make online instruction seamless since 2021.
The Facebook Class feature came to light when a UK user found the feature on Meta's Facebook UK platform.
A source in the media said that the service complements the company's paid live events feature. According to the source, users who adhere to Meta's monetization policies can offer paid live events such as cooking classes or fundraisers.

The programme is reportedly active in the UK, but the latest trial seeks to expand it into Canada and the United States as well. The trial period, which has now concluded, included a "instructor community" of people who will live-stream classes on Messenger and through the Classes feature for $300 and other small rewards, said a source. A "Facebook Classes Instructor" group shows that approximately 3,100 people have signed up to test the programme.
Meta would be thrust into a highly fragmented and competitive market, according to experts.
Facebook Classes has been compared to Udemy, an online learning platform that raised hundreds of millions of dollars during the pandemic on the premise that anyone can teach video classes. However, Meta's offering appears to be more focused on live events. This places Meta in a different category than companies that offer massive open online courses, or MOOCs—which, according to experts, tend to focus more on upskilling and offer certificates aimed at professional advancement.
