In Tiff Over the Launch of India’s 1st Virtual School: Centre Dismisses AAP’s Claim
T The NIOS disputes the assertion made by the AAP government of Delhi that it founded India's first virtual school. The NIOS, which operates independently under the Ministry of Education, declared in a statement that it would launch the first virtual school in the nation in August 2021.
"With reference to various media stories about the alleged today's establishment of India's first virtual school. According to information available, NIOS has already started the nation's first virtual school in August of 2021.
…in the recently completed academic session 4.46 lakh assignments have been uploaded by the NIOS learners... these are being auto allocated to the subject experts and are being evaluated online… it is expected to reach the mark of more than 10 lakh online submissions and evaluation of assignments in the on-going academic session…
Earlier in the day, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced that the Delhi government’s virtual school will be open to children aged between 13 to 18 years who have cleared Class 8 from any recognised school. He announced, “All classes will be online in our virtual school, online classes will be recorded, so that students who are unable to attend the live classes can take them in their free time.”
More than 7000 study centres connected with the NIOS currently provide academic help, while more than 1500 study centres assist students in skill-based-vocational courses, according to a news release from the NIOS.
