Indian Medical Students in China Demand Action from Authorities
N New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar has seen strong protests from Indian students in China in the past few days. Students studying in China have been left worried about their future, demanding action from the government and authorities’ permission to allow them to study in India or head back to China to complete education.
Things became tough in February 2022 when the National Medical Commission (NMC) issued a warning to students seeking admission in foreign colleges that it would not recognise medical courses taught online. Adding to the pain was the fact that China had announced lockdowns soon after, owing to the rise of Covid cases in China.

Since the pandemic began, an estimated 23,000 Indian students, mostly studying medicine, came back to India. Now, these students are seeking clarification from authorities on what to do next.
While other nations have begun allowing international students to their countries, China’s strict Covid strategy prevents students from heading back to China all at once. Students who are in their final year of MBBS or those who are set to begin their final year in July 2022 are among the most concerned.
