International Education: Iran and Russia Intend to Increase Student Exchanges
A According to recent reports from Iranian state media, student exchanges between Iranian and Russian universities may increase. Following discussions with Russian representatives in Iran on August 13, the Iranian education ministry told the press that it would welcome Russian students to Iran's universities and that there might be additional student exchanges between Moscow and Tehran.
The media also reported that both parties expressed interest in two-way language exchange, which could lead to more Persian and Russian classes being taught in Iran and Russia, respectively.
…I trust that, with the government support, exchange programmes may develop between Russian and Iranian Universities rather quickly…
A joint scholarship between Iranian and Russian universities has also been proposed by Mohammad Mohammadi Masoudi, director general of scholarships for the Student Affairs Organisation.
Russian students have encountered logistical challenges to studying abroad since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February, including sanctions and travel limitations.
The media reported earlier this month that some Western universities have severed ties with Russian agents, despite the fact that the majority of them still openly accept Russian students. These elements have prompted some students to think about travelling to unorthodox places.
"I trust that, with the government's support, exchange programmes may develop between Russian and Iranian universities rather quickly," said Elena Solomonova, Director of the Russian agency Insight-Lingua, in response to the news. "Especially due to the cancellation of numerous cooperation projects that had been created with European universities over the past 10-15 years," she added.
