K–20 Technology Innovator RedCritter Launches CritterCoin to Leverage NFTs
R RedCritter, a powerhouse K-20 technology innovator, recently introduced CritterCoin, a free house system with a rewards store for implementing Positive Behavioural Interventions and Supports (PBIS) in schools and classrooms. CritterCoin, which is free for students and teachers, was launched in early 2022 to help teachers harness the power of positive reinforcement for learners of all ages without disrupting the flow of teaching or adding extra paperwork. CritterCoin's powerful motivational rewards for students include digital coins and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
RedCritter’s CEO Mike Beaty commented on the launch and said, "We’re proud to be the first to offer digital collectible coins and NFTs to incentivize positive behaviour," He added, "Over the past decade, RedCritter has developed 24 edtech patents to serve the needs of our community of educators." Our mission with CritterCoin is to use these exciting new technologies to give educators a free and easy way to encourage positive classroom behaviour and school values.

CritterCoin walks schools through the process of categorising students into houses and determining which behaviours to reward. Schools then create their own digital coins, which teachers award in real time when students exhibit positive behaviour. Each new coin earned by a student adds to their reward store balance as well as their house's score. Students from the highest-scoring house receive collectible digital critters, which can be converted to NFTs on the Avalanche blockchain.
CritterCoin, which is already used by thousands of students worldwide, integrates with ClassLink, allowing schools to easily roster students and students to access their accounts without requiring logins or emails. A premium version of CritterCoin is also available, which includes additional features such as:
- Data insights to analyse how CritterCoins are distributed, compare competition rounds to one another, and track utilisation data;
- A public digital scoreboard to keep teamwork and positive behaviours on students’ minds;
- Parent access, which allows student guardians to view their students’ achievements and even award coins at home; and
- Scannables, which allow teachers to easily create QR codes that students can scan in order to receive coins.
