Maplewoodshop and Northeast Carpenters Apprenticeship Fund Introduce Middle School Students to the Trades
T To increase the number of high school students enrolled in CTE programmes across the Northeast, Maplewoodshop, a pioneer in teaching woodworking to elementary and middle school students, announced its partnership with the Northeast Carpenters Apprenticeship Fund (NCAF).
Through this collaboration, schools that work with Maplewoodshop will now also be able to use the NCAF Career Connections curriculum from the Carpenters International Training Fund (CITF).
Speaking on the collaboration, Mike Schloff, CEO of Maplewoodshop said, “We’ve worked together with dozens of schools to offer hand tool versions of CITF Career Connections projects. Growing this partnership is very exciting as it will allow us to introduce the trades to more students and expand potential apprenticeship opportunities.”
…am very excited by the fact that we are reaching down to the middle schools to open pathways to high pay, high skill, and high demand careers…
The Maplewoodshop programme, which has more than 120 locations nationwide, provides non-CTE educators with curriculum, ongoing support, and digital and live teacher training in order to prepare them to teach woodworking with hand tools. To turn any classroom into a woodshop, Maplewoodshop also offers hand-powered tools, exclusive workbenches, and a specially designed tool chest.
“I am very excited by the fact that we are reaching down to the middle schools to open pathways to high pay, high skill, and high demand careers,” said Tom Sommers, Director of Outreach and Development for the Eastern Atlantic States Carpenters Funds.”
The NCAF is dedicated to developing the most proficient and effective workforce possible in order to maintain competitiveness in the modern construction market. The group thinks that training is the only factor that will determine how employable its members are.
All children can continue to develop their self-esteem, creativity, and sense of community through woodworking thanks to partners like NCAF and Maplewoodshop.
