NIT Rourkela Awards Blockchain-Based Digital Degrees to Over 1,500 Students
A As per media reports, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela became the first NIT to award Blockchain-based digital degrees to over 1500 students at its 19th convocation on August 13. These degrees were created in collaboration with IIT Kanpur's C3i Innovation Hub, as part of Prime Minister's National Blockchain Project.
To access a secure portal containing their degrees, candidates will receive an OTP on their mobile number, which will also be sent to their email address. The degrees would also be available for download as a PDF file, making them available anywhere in the world.

As part of the announcement, the government of India stated in a statement, "Blockchain systems work on the principle of decentralisation, which results in control not being in the hands of one person but on a distributed network." Six institute gold medals, five endowment gold medals, five endowment awards, 70 branch topper medals, and one endowment cash award were presented to graduates during the 19th annual convocation in 2021. A total of 11 alumni received the Distinguished Alumnus Award-2021, and 1,555 students (859 Undergraduate, 608 Post-Graduates, and 88 PhDs) received their diplomas.
