Study in Russia Launched to Give African a Chance to Join Russian Institutions
T The Russian Federation is brushing off negative coverage from its invasion of Ukraine by launching an aggressive campaign aimed at offering African students the option of working part-time while studying, among other benefits, to get them to attend its universities.
The country's Study in Russia project is being promoted in African countries through mainstream and social media platforms, enticing students to join its schools ahead of admissions and the start of courses in October this year.
…we work with dozens of Kenyan applicants and their parents every day, so we are always up to date on higher education news and understand what issues are important to you...
A coalition of 20 Russian state institutions is leveraging the fact that studies are offered in both English and French, the primary international languages in Africa, as a selling point through their destination Russia agency RACUS. They claim that this will save pupils up to a full year of learning Russian, mostly as a foundation course.
For the reasons stated above, as well as the low fees of approximately US$1,650-4,000 per year charged, and a simplified procedure for "obtaining Russian citizenship," as well as visa-free entry to nationals from over 130 countries around the world, would make Russia, a viable option for African students.
In a statement, “Every day we work with dozens of applicants from Kenya and their parents, therefore we always have up-to-date information in the field of higher education and know what issues concern you,” says a source from RACUS. The source further added, “We follow innovations and global trends in order to offer you the best in Russia and take all the administrative responsibility to ensure 100% admission to the university.”
Experts however warned about past racial attacks on students of African origin in Russia. Quelling these speculations, a source from RACUS said, “We work with dozens of Kenyan applicants and their parents every day, so we are always up to date on higher education news and understand what issues are important to you.”
