The Victoria Government is Investing $53 Million to Support International Education
P Plans to aid the pandemic-related recovery of the global education sector were unveiled by the Victoria government. Initiatives aimed at enhancing student experiences and promoting employability are among the other plans, which will receive a critical $53 million in support.
The plan comes as 230,000 students who are currently enrolled in Victorian institutions are still located abroad, as opposed to the 105,000 international students who are currently studying in Victoria. Since the reopening of the borders in December, only 37,000 people have returned.
The new strategy, which is known as Study Melbourne's International Education Recovery Plan 2025, was created in collaboration with the education industry and emphasises the value of international students to Victoria.
…the plan demonstrates a commitment by the government to support Victoria's highly regarded tertiary institutions to build on their global reputations and become destinations of choice for international students…
Margaret Gardner, president and vice chancellor of Monash University, said the plan "demonstrates a commitment by the government to support Victoria's highly regarded tertiary institutions to build on their global reputations and become destinations of choice for international students."
Tim Pallas, the minister for trade, continued by saying, "We've worked with the international education sector to develop a plan that will provide confidence, create jobs, and strengthen our state's position as a top-tier student destination."
Sources say the government's $52.9 million investment will be used in part to enhance the student experience, including the reopening of the Study Melbourne student-focused hub in Victoria and the provision of local transportation discounts. Students will have access to free legal assistance through the hub for issues like employment and housing.
The government also plans to work with businesses to improve employability outcomes.
