UAE to Introduce Golden Visa for Global Students
I In a bid to improve the UAE's workforce, the cabinet made a push to attract global talent through a new golden visa. Announced on April 18th, a statement by Emirates News Agency revealed the new amendment is aimed at “attracting and retaining global talents and skilled workers” and “boosting the competitiveness” of the UAE’s job market.”
To execute the global visa system, the United Arab Emirates has tied up with the QS world ranking system, which looks at factors like teaching, research and employability. Speaking about the golden visa, QS director of analytics said, “The UAE’s visa program highlights that university rankings are an important part of the toolkit in understanding comparative university performance in a global context.”

According to sources, high-performing students at UAE schools will also be eligible to apply for the golden visa. The source went on to say the pool of eligibility for these long-term visas has been expanded and it will allow golden residence holders to sponsor family members. The changes to the visa are expected to come into effect later in 2022.
The introduction of a new golden visa scheme has been welcomed by experts. Amongst them is Abeer Husseini, partner at immigration law firm Fragomen, he said, “The recent changes that the UAE government has introduced have definitely been welcomed with quite a lot of open arms, the changes to the country’s visa system over recent years mark a “shift from immigration that was based on a sponsorship model to a self-sponsored model.”
With the United Kingdom opening up immigration to students, UAE is competing with the best in the world to attract global students.
