UGC Announces Grant Programmes for Fellowships and Research
O On the occasion of Teachers' Day, the University Grants Commission (UGC) announced a number of research initiatives that will assist higher education institutions all across the nation. On September 5, at 3 p.m., the new fellowships went live on the UGC's online portal. The UGC's fellowship and research grant programmes are listed below:
Scholarship for Retired Faculty Members
The purpose of this fellowship is to give retired faculty members access to research opportunities. There are 100 slots available for this fellowship, and the chosen applicants will receive Rs 50,000 per month in fellowship payments and Rs 50,000 per year in contingency payments.
Candidates should be a maximum of 67 years old to be eligible. Candidates should have successfully supervised the PhD dissertations of 10 full-time candidates, three of whom have received their degrees during the preceding 10 years. The applicant must also have managed at least three sponsored research projects funded by national or international organisations as the principal investigator. Additionally, the candidates should not have any administrative responsibilities starting on the date of superannuation and lasting for the duration of the fellowship.

For In-Service Faculty Members
The goal of this fellowship is to provide research opportunities to regularly appointed faculty members, and the scheme will provide Rs 10 lakh in support to 200 selected candidates for a two-year period.
Eligibility: Interested candidates must be at least 50 years old and have completed at least 10 years of service at the university/institution as of the date of application submission. In addition, the candidates must have successfully supervised five full-time PhD candidates' dissertations and completed at least two sponsored research projects funded by national/international government or private agencies.
Dr. DS Kothari Research Grant for Newly Hired Faculty
Regularly appointed faculty members will benefit from research opportunities through the fellowship. The scheme's support amount is Rs 10 lakh, which will be given to 132 selected candidates for a two-year period.
Interested candidates must be newly appointed Assistant Professors in permanent positions, have a PhD with at least five research papers, and apply within two years of starting the position.
