UK Boarding Schools' Association Launches Due Diligence Service to Enhance Recruitment Process for International Students
T The UK Boarding Schools' Association (UKBSA) has launched a new due diligence service to enhance the recruitment process for international students, addressing concerns over safeguarding issues and the need for better supervision. The new service is designed to ensure that applicants to UK boarding schools are properly vetted, and their backgrounds are thoroughly checked, to minimise the risk of admitting students who pose a threat to themselves or others.
The BSA has collaborated with consulting and transparency firm Verisio to expand its compliance-related services for member and affiliated schools. The BSA/Versio Due Diligence Service will assist British boarding schools in ensuring admissions align with national and international legal frameworks. It will also check global sanctions and political exposure regarding the source of funds, perform accurate checks on high-risk jurisdictions, and provide final commentaries on the source of wealth.
…the BSA/Verisio Due Diligence Service will enable schools to identify who they are engaging with, whether it is an agent, parent, donor, or business partner…
Kate Hollyer, Director of Legal and Public Affairs at the BSA Group, stated that the BSA/Verisio Due Diligence Service will enable schools to identify who they are engaging with, whether it is an agent, parent, donor, or business partner. The recruitment of international students is advantageous for the British school sector as a whole; however, it comes with risks that should be appropriately considered and mitigated through the admissions process. Schools may inadvertently breach sanctions regulations and become exposed to significant reputational risks where the source of international funds is not adequately reviewed.
The BSA's collaboration with Versio provides a reliable solution to help boarding schools ensure that admissions align with legal frameworks and mitigate potential risks associated with the recruitment of international students. The service will be an asset to all UKBSA member schools, helping to maintain the highest standards of education, welfare, and safeguarding for students from around the world.
