West Bengal: New Course to Bridge Learning Gaps
S Starting January 2022, West Bengal’s new academic session will have a new course named ‘Setu Pathakram', to be available for students of all classes. Setu Pathakram is a bridge course of 100 days that will help students acclimate to their new promoted classes.
Since March 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all classes were held virtually, which may have created gaps in learning. The 100-day course will help the students refresh their understanding of the subjects.
Setu Pathakram …The course will act in the same way like a bridge that connects two different points
“Say, for instance, a student of class 4 in the pre-pandemic time is set to attend class 6 if the junior section reopens from January. The course will act in the same way like a bridge that connects two different points,” Chairman of the Expert Committee on curriculum and textbooks, Avik Majumder said. The educational institutions in West Bengal reopened for students of classes 9-12 in mid-November this year. Training of teachers for the purpose in state-run or government-aided educational institutions has already begun, he added.
The curriculum for each class has been designed by education experts. “If offline classes are delayed due to any new development in the coronavirus situation, we will keep it ready for the time till the situation becomes normal,” Majumder said. Apart from the usual subjects, the students of classes 6, 8, and 11 will also be taught everything one needs to know about the COVID-19 pandemic, the coronavirus, do’s and don’ts, and necessary SOP’s. “The course material will be customised depending on the respective class and the receptive ability of students,” Majumder added.
