Wunder: A Community App Aiding Parents of Kids with Learning Disabilities Launched
M Many parents of neurodivergent children find it hard to find resources and initiate conversations about learning and thinking differences with their child, family, teachers, and community. Stigma and misconception are two problems that these parents face. To offer these parents tech support, Understood.org has launched a new app.
Wunder by Understood, a free, first-of-its-kind community app designed for parents raising children with learning and thinking differences, was launched today by Understood.org, the resource for Americans with learning and thinking differences.
According to company sources, Wunder will provide a safe space for parents to connect, engage with experts, and find resources to help them navigate their children's learning and thinking differences.
…on top of the stigmas and loneliness that many neurodivergent kids and parents experience, they're also facing ever-changing school routines, overwhelming news headlines, mental health challenges, and beyond…
In the Neurodiversity and Stigma Study conducted by Understood.org, more than half of parents with neurodivergent children are afraid to tell others about their child's differences due to associated biases. With no forum to discuss these issues and seek advice, parents may feel isolated and uncertain, leaving their children without the support they require. These were the prime reasons behind the Wunder app's creation.
Jenny Wu, co-president at Understood.org, said, "On top of the stigmas and loneliness that many neurodivergent kids and parents experience, they're also facing constantly shifting school schedules, overwhelming news headlines, mental health challenges, and beyond."
Wunder will bring this community together in a way that has never been possible, and that is its best feature.
So that families' children can thrive, Wunder will assist them in preparing for and navigating the opportunities and difficulties that come with neurodiversity. The app is free to download and use.
