After Glitches NTA Opens Fresh Exam Window for CUET UG 2022

T The National Testing Agency (NTA) is taking action in order to prevent future technical problems with the Common University Entrance Test for undergraduate admissions. Due to glitches (CUET-UG) in the earlier exams, NTA is expanding server capacity, opening a new exam window, and speeding up the delivery of question papers to testing locations across the country.

Candidates who were unable to take the test between August 4-6 were told by the NTA on Sunday that they would now be accommodated in new slots between August 24-28, for which new admit cards would also be issued in a few days.

Exams were administered across 276 centres on Sunday, the fourth day of the CUET-UG second phase, which got underway on August 4. After significant issues with the exam process on August 4 and 5, which inconvenienced more than 50,000 candidates, the NTA did not announce any cancellations for the second day in a row.

…the CUET question papers are larger in size as compared to JEE Mains or NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) and take longer to get uploaded…

NTA sources say that during meetings with the University Grants Commission (UGC) over the weekend, which also included Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the agency reviewed the causes of the glitches. Similar to the JEE Mains, the CUET is a computer-based test.

Although 9.1 lakh students registered for the CUET-UG, because each of them is taking multiple exams, there are actually 14.4 lakh candidates. In the exam, which is being administered in 13 languages and has 61 subjects available, 54,555 different combinations of subjects have been selected, with each candidate permitted to sit for a maximum of nine papers.

We made the decision to keep the time between the upload of the question papers and the start of the exam as brief as possible after learning from the past paper leaks and confidentiality breaches. On August 4, however, the process was hampered by poor Internet connectivity, which led to delays of up to two hours. The CUET question papers are larger in size compared to JEE Mains or NEET (National Eligibility Entrance Test) and take longer to upload, said a representative from the NTA.
