CBSE, UNICEF, YuWaah Unite to Promote Skill-Based Learning

T The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has partnered with UNICEF and YuWaah to provide skill-based learning skills to students in India. Through the partnership, CBSE hopes to offer career counselling, build life skills, and make volunteering opportunities more accessible and engaging to students.

The National Education Policy (NEP) and CBSE's current endeavour of the Handbook on 21st Century Skills and Employability Skills coursework have guided the creation of this initiative. The move behind the partnership is because CBSE wants to get away from rote learning and emphasise the value of developing students' talents.

…we, at CBSE, welcome this initiative as it would provide our students an opportunity to learn 21st century skills, which are very relevant in current times, and which will help in shaping them into productive citizens in the future…

The organisations will now launch the Passport to Earning (P2E) project for CBSE students through the partnership, whereby students will be upskilled with essential 21st century skills matched to the CBSE's employability skills curriculum. The effort will subsequently be expanded to kids across the nation on the basis of this pilot programme, together with teacher training and capacity building to make it possible.

Talking about the partnership, Nidhi Chhibber, Chairperson, CBSE said, “It recommends instilling skills in students, right from the school level. Passport to Earning is one of the initiatives supported by the Board towards achieving this goal. In time, we may explore integrating P2E with the Skill Hubs Initiative of the Govt. of India. We, at CBSE, welcome this initiative as it would provide our students an opportunity to learn 21st century skills, which are very relevant in current times, and which will help in shaping them into productive citizens in the future.”

While the project is in its pilot phase, CBSE hopes to expand the project to all parts of the country at a later stage.
