Communities In Schools Launches Inspiring Film Demonstrating Life-Changing Impact of Empowering Students

T The Push, a motivational new movie that centres on the relationship between a high school senior and a CIS site coordinator, was just released by Communities In Schools, the national organisation working to ensure that every student has what they need to succeed in school and beyond.

The movie gives viewers an inside look at one of the numerous success stories that are being played out in thousands of CIS schools across the nation as a result of the efforts made by CIS and its coordinators to link students with resources and caring adults who can positively impact their lives and communities.

The Push is a motivational 22-minute documentary that was shot just outside of Atlanta and tells the story of Ja-Mez, a senior at Stone Mountain High School who is getting ready to graduate with his high school class of 2022—an accomplishment that seemed unimaginable just two years ago. Ja-Mez appeared to have a good chance of going the same route as many of his peers who dropped out of high school. Ja-Mez is inspired and driven to succeed, though, after getting to know CIS of Atlanta site coordinator Darrell Smith.

To change the way that children view and interact with their surroundings, CIS works in more than 2,900 schools across the nation. Schools where CIS site coordinators provide its integrated or wraparound support model report higher attendance, promotion, and graduation rates, with 96% of seniors whose cases are handled by site coordinators like Smith graduating and 73% planning to continue their education after high school.
