GSA Opens $110M Student Housing Project in Adelaide

G GSA, a student housing provider, is opening a new 110-million-dollar housing project for students in Adelaide. The project is built to accommodate 725 students, and is one of Adelaide’s tallest, standing at 118 meters.

Apart from a living space, the building features study rooms, outdoor terraces, a gym, cinema, communal kitchens and lounges. A source close to GSA exclaimed that there has been “positive interest” in Yugo Adelaide City, with 90% of students arriving from international locations.

Yugo, who currently operates student accommodation blocks in cities such as Perth and Melbourne, will manage the Adelaide facility. Tim Klitscher, managing director for Asia-Pacific at YUGO, said that the Australian market is “recovering well” and that they “expect that to gather pace in the coming months”. He further added, “We’ve been open to students for only a month, our bookings already sit at just over 50%, and as we approach the second Australian semester – which is the first semester for many of our international students – we expect interest to increase significantly.”

“Globally, student housing has proven to be a resilient sector throughout the turbulence of the past few years, underpinned by continuing growing demand for higher education globally and a strong preference for in-person learning”, said Travis Harkness, a GSA Development Director.

What makes the project attractive to students is Yugo’s “all-inclusive-pricing. The pricing protects students from the increasing costs of electricity and water”.

In wake of Australia’s housing crisis, the new accommodation comes as a blessing in disguise for students, especially those returning to Australia after the pandemic.
