R Recent data from the ISC Research identified five leading school groups within the international school market, namely, Maple Bear Global Schools Ltd, Beaconhouse Group, Grupo SEB, The City School, and Nord Anglia Education Ltd, which collectively owns or manages 867 international schools.

Out of this, GEMS Education led the scene with the highest number of students enrolled across 44 schools, mainly in the UAE and Qatar. A total of 124,000 pupils enrolled, which gives us an understanding of how these international schools have managed to gain more students whilst maintaining standards and affordable enrollment fees.

…expansion by school groups is occurring through the acquisition of existing schools that struggled financially during the pandemic…

The main reason behind this growth can be attributed to increased awareness among parents regarding international schools. It comes easy as these international schools guarantee a high standard of learning and prepare students to face whatever the world demands, qualification-wise. Western approach to education is highly in demand and parents are aware of that. Also, parents are more inclined to get their children enrolled in a branded international school that is part of a group, instead of a non-brand affiliated international school. Even though both are international schools.

According to the ISC, international school groups “fly the flag for the whole sector”. As per their research, brands “play an important advocacy role” when it comes to governments and universities. Thus, aiming at potential investors, it states that the international school market is “an attractive one for those looking for long-term investment”. With the pandemic and global inflation, the international schools have made schooling more affordable whilst keeping the standards intact.
