India: Ministry of Defence Approved 21 New Sainik Schools to Function in Partnership Mode

T The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has approved the first leg, that is, the setting up of 21 new Sainik Schools. These new schools will be in partnership with NGOs, private schools or State Governments.

The government envisions, with these new schools, to provide quality education to the students as per the National Education Policy 2020, and give them better career opportunities, including joining the Indian Armed Forces.

…pro-rata distribution of 100 New Sainik Schools to various States/UTs has been done in proportion to the number of districts in that particular State/UT…

Out of the 21 new schools, 17 of these Schools are Brownfield running schools and four are Greenfield schools. These schools will be operational shortly. As this is a partnership project, Non-Governmental Organisation/Trusts/Societies have a share of 12 approved new schools. As of now six private Schools and three State Government owned schools have made it to the list of approved new Sainik Schools. A. Bharat Bhushan Babu, Principal Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, Government of India said, “Pro-rata distribution of 100 New Sainik Schools to various States/UTs has been done in proportion to the number of districts in that particular State/UT.”

Existing Sainik Schools are purely residential in nature, but we can expect to see some changes with the new list of schools. From the new 21, seven of these Sainik Schools are Day School, and 14 have residential arrangements. These new Sainik Schools will be affiliated to their respective education boards, but will function under the aegis of Sainik Schools Society and will follow the Rules and Regulations for new Sainik schools in partnership mode prescribed by the Society. The academic education and curriculum will follow the Sainik school pattern.
