Indian Students: Get Twice As Many US Visas As China...

A According to a study of non-immigrant visas issued by the US State Department, Indians received roughly twice as many student visas as Chinese this year (through July), despite the fact that the US receives the majority of international students from China.

Based on a report, 46,145 Chinese students received F-1 visas between January and July of this year, compared to 77,799 Indian students.

Those who want to attend a US university or college, high school, a private elementary school, or other academic institutions are granted an F-1 visa. In addition to language training programmes, the US also grants M-1 visas to foreign students who want to enrol in vocational or other recognised non-academic institutions.

Even though the number of Chinese students travelling to the US for higher education has decreased since the Covid-19 pandemic's outbreak, China continues to send the most foreign students to study in the US. According to news reports, South Korea is in third place, followed by India in second.

99,431 Chinese students received F-1 visas in 2021, compared to 87,258 Indian students and 16,865 South Korean students. According to a report from a leading newspaper, this number was 4,853 for China and 21,908 for India in 2020. Due to Covid-instigated lockdowns in various countries and China's strict movement restrictions on its citizens, the figures took a significant hit in 2020.

Not only the USA, but also the UK issued more sponsored study visas during the July 2021–June 2022 period, with 117,965 of those going to Indian students, an increase of 89% from the previous year, according to IE. In the meantime, Chinese students received 115,056 study visas overall.

The number of study visas issued by the UK to Indian students increased by 21% compared to 2019, while it decreased by 4% for Chinese students, according to the report.
