International Baccalaureate Bolsters Presence in India: Customizing Education to Suit Local Needs

Building on its curriculum's implementation in top Indian schools, the IB board is now ready to make significant strides in expanding its reach and influence across the country.

The IB board is making significant strides towards its objective by actively collaborating with 100 new schools across India, including prestigious government-run institutions like those affiliated with the Delhi Board of School Education, Haryana School Education Board, and Mumbai Public School.

These efforts aim to implement the globally recognized IB curriculum in a diverse range of schools throughout the country. During the recent 'Festival of Hope' at Dhirubhai Ambani International School (DAIS) in Mumbai, Olli-Pekka Heinonen, the director general of IB Organization (IBO), reiterated the board's commitment to understanding the local context and addressing the unique requirements of the Indian audience. He highlighted, "While the IB curriculum is more commonly offered by public schools worldwide than in India, there is a growing interest in adopting the IB school pattern here. We are actively identifying the local context and catering to the specific needs of the Indian audience."

At the event, Heinonen and his team actively engaged with 56 participating schools from all corners of India, underscoring their dedication to providing an individualized approach to education.

In an update provided by Matt Costello, the chief business development officer of IBO, it was revealed that IB schools across India currently offer 317 programs, with an additional 117 programs in the pipeline. Looking ahead, Heinonen highlighted the organisation's intention to introduce vocational training-driven programs specifically designed for the Indian audience. Recognizing the global approach and international recognition of the IB curriculum, he stated, "It is an appealing choice for parents who aspire to send their children abroad for higher education."

Nicole Bien, the Chief Schools Officer at IBO, further explained that the IB curriculum framework seamlessly aligns with India's recently launched National Education Policy (NEP). This alignment has led to an increased demand for learning the IB pedagogy, reinforcing the relevance and value of the curriculum in the Indian educational landscape.
