Leadership in Outdoor Recreation Industry Program Launched at University of Denver

T The University of Denver (DU) is collaborating with The VF Foundation to launch the Leadership in Outdoor Recreation Industry (LORI) programme. This interdisciplinary programme encompasses coursework from DU's Daniels College of Business, Sturm College of Law, and Josef Korbel School of International Studies. The program's primary goal is to broaden the talent pipeline for the outdoor industry.

The programme, developed in collaboration with the University of Denver (DU), is made possible by The VF Foundation's generous support of more than $3 million over three years. The grant represents The VF Foundation's single largest contribution.

According to Steve Rendle, CEO of VF Corporation, the Foundation's targeted support of scholarships for underrepresented individuals, combined with DU's extensive offering of business and industry-relevant coursework, VF Corporation hopes to spark the next generation of diverse leadership in the outdoor industry.

This unique learning experience will appeal to both emerging and established leaders, and we couldn't be more excited to collaborate with DU on this important endeavour as we expand our I&D work beyond the VF walls." VF Corporation CEO Steve Rendle added.

To meet the demands of a rapidly growing industry and the mounting challenges confronting wilderness areas in the United States, there is an increasing demand for tailored workforce development and professional education. "We're developing specialised, easily accessible programming that will prepare students for current outdoor industry jobs as well as future careers that will change the field," says DU Chancellor Jeremy Haefner.

Coursework will be taught online to ensure access for outdoor industry professionals. Financial models, marketing, sustainability, ESG, legal issues in land use and access, supply chain, public policy, data-driven decision-making, and other topics will be covered. The programme will begin in 2023 and will include two 16-credit graduate certificates.
