National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University to Sponsor Degrees of 40 Ukrainian Students

I In an effort to show its support to Ukraine in the war with Russia, Taiwan's National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University has announced the launch of a programme to sponsor the degrees of 40 Ukrainian students.

According to NYCU Vice President Wei Shun-hua, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University has an ongoing fundraiser that began in April – the funds from which, along with several alumni and corporate donations, will go toward the goal of sponsoring all 40 students' tuition, living expenses, transportation expenses, and any other expenses they incur during their studies.

…situations faced by the displaced students are far more complicated than we thought, and we have encountered many challenges, such as trying to reach them to get a full review of their student status…

Ms. Wei was quoted as saying, “The situations faced by the displaced students are far more complicated than we thought, and we have encountered many challenges, such as trying to reach them to get a full review of their student status.”

Wei also stated that these students who have been displaced by the Ukrainian invasion will receive free Mandarin-language classes to help them adjust to life in Taiwan.

Wei explained that the main goal of launching this programme is for NYCU to play a "positive role" in the international community by providing humanitarian aid while also allowing the university to fulfil its international education responsibilities.

According to the university's most recent press release, NYCU also encourages academic institutions to share resources and relevant information about this programme with Ukrainian partners and others.
