New Report by CompetencyWorks Initiative Examines Mental Health Models

A A new report, Teachers Making the Shift to Equitable, Learner-Centered Education, from the CompetencyWorks initiative of the Aurora Institute examines how educators can use mental models, motivations, and actions to advance learner-centered education.

According to a source familiar with the initiative, we are aware that the traditional "sit and get" classroom will not aid in the advancement of educational equity or the development of the deeper learning abilities our students need to succeed. The insider added, "To advance learner-centered education, systems-change work is essential. However, what steps can "educators make right away to advance these environments?"

…this paper is an invaluable resource for those who lead, design, and are engaged in educator professional learning…

This new resource provides a thorough, evidence-based analysis of how education systems can aid the shift to learner-centered education by utilising the mental models, motives, and actions of educators.

This resource offers actions educators can take right away to change their practise and advance learner-centered environments for those who are in charge of and interested in professional learning.

According to Laurie Gagnon, the Aurora Institute's programme director for the CompetencyWorks initiative, "This paper is an invaluable resource for those who lead, design, and are engaged in educator professional learning." Making the Shift presents evidence-based tactics to influence teachers' practises in favour of learner-centered instruction, she added.

Changing to an equitable, learner-centered approach is difficult, according to Wendy Surr, the report's lead researcher and main author.

"With this report, the blogs, and the exercises, we hope to help practitioners use our Making the Shift framework to involve teachers in the kind of deeper learning that is necessary to effect real change. We believe we can strengthen and expedite change efforts by utilising the learning sciences to identify and address the mental models, motivations, and actions of educators."
