New Zealand Announces Immigration Rebalance with New Immigration Strategy in Place

N New Zealand’s Education Minister has said that the country is backing its international education industry to promote brand New Zealand as a top educational destination to students worldwide. Talking at the 2022 NAFSA conference, Chris Hipkins stated, “within the international education sector in New Zealand, there is a good degree of consensus about what we’re trying to achieve.”

To achieve their goals, New Zealand’s education department has launched a new global marketing campaign that will showcase how international students studying in New Zealand have thrived in the country, despite coming from different cultures and backgrounds. The key message of the campaign is ‘diversity among incoming international students.

Consultations are already taking place for the revamp on New Zealand’s International Education Strategy in meetings that will end by June 24th, 2022.

Part of the talks is what the education department calls “immigration rebalance”, a new idea that projects New Zealand to prospective students as a destination for quality education and unique experiences. The goal is to encourage more foreign students to sign up for international education in New Zealand.

Grant McPherson, Chief Executive of Education New Zealand Manapou ki te Ao while speaking to media people, said, “The first phase is about rebuilding and recovery – promoting New Zealand’s education brand and supporting student recruitment,” McPherson explained.” The second phase aims to build capability and investment in a more diverse and resilient international education sector.” He spoke about the first phase of the NZIES 2022-2030 draft.
