New Zealand Government Backs Innovative Education with $1.6m

E Education New Zealand has always supported the education community in its efforts to facilitate innovation since the launch of the 2020 Future Focus Programme. They have, however, frequently felt that not enough has been done.

Education New Zealand is expanding its efforts to support innovative education in New Zealand this year by establishing an International Education Product Innovation Fund. Six awardees will receive financial support ranging from $200,000 to $300,000 for individual projects over the next 12 months as part of the special fund.

“The potential of each of these projects can now be fully explored, and I am confident the lessons learned can be shared for the benefit of our whole education sector, inspiring others to follow their lead.” said ENZ chief executive Grant McPherson.

…the initiative aims to "fund initiatives that provide new, significant, and distinctive learning experiences from New Zealand with educational goods and services that distinguish New Zealand from other nations…

BOMA New Zealand, a global course for rugby coaches developed in collaboration with The Crusaders, the 18-week online indigenous eCommerce programme Te Whare Hukahuka, and Virtual Medical Coaching, which offers virtual reality online medical training focused on childbirth simulation, are among the six winning applications.

Additional recipients of funding include the NZ financial literacy platform Banqer, the live-action-drama English language learning platform Chasing Time English, the Te Kaihau Education Trust/ The Windeaters experts on global citizenship and sustainable development, and others.

ENZ established the fund in April to encourage educational institutions to create fresh educational materials and services for students from abroad.

It is a component of the updated international education strategy and, according to ENZ, the initiative aims to "fund initiatives that provide new, significant, and distinctive learning experiences from New Zealand with educational goods and services that distinguish New Zealand from other nations."
