Reports: IIT Kanpur to Assist City Development Projects Using Blockchain Tech

A A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) and IIT-Kanpur to explore opportunities in blockchain technology is about to be signed. According to a rumour, IIT Kanpur city planners want to rope in IIT Kanpur as a "knowledge partner" for the city.

According to KDA officials, the use of this technology will prevent tampering with property documents while reducing the number of cases of property fraud. There have been numerous instances of property fraud in Kanpur in the past; the government will also use IIT Kanpur's technological know-how to develop the city for the betterment of the people. The government hopes that this will be the first of many collaborations with IIT Kanpur.

Commenting about the partnership, a city official said, "Blockchain technology is intended to be used for the convenience of the general public and to protect KDA properties from fraud and for easy, transparent use of each property."

A senior city official confirmed the news to city reports saying that at a recently held meeting between Singh and IIT Professor Dr Manindra Agrawal. At the meeting, both entities spoke about a plan to develop Kanpur using technology.
