Setback for Indian Students as NMC Doesn't Recognize Ukraine’s ‘Mobility Programme’ Offer

T The National Medical Council (NMC) of India has announced that it does not recognise the "mobility programme" being offered by the Ukrainian government for foreign medical students, this comes as a setback for Indian medical students who returned from Ukraine after the war there broke out.

Prior to the start of the fall semester on September 1, Ukrainian universities are offering Indian students a "mobility programme" that allows them to choose to study for a few semesters at a different institution under the "student exchange" programme, which the NMC has refused to recognise.

…the alternative option is a "mobility programme" which will arrange for their classes to be held at another university in Europe while they continue to be students at the Ukrainian university...

Ukrainian universities have begun emailing Indian students to request payment for the upcoming semester. The students have the choice of returning to the university for in-person instruction or continuing their theoretical studies online and coming back for their practical training in February 2023, when the new semester starts. The alternative option is a "mobility programme," which will arrange for their classes to be held at another university in Europe while they continue to be students at the Ukrainian university.

In addition to declining to acknowledge the mobility offer made to students, the NMC made it clear that there was no option for students to be housed in Indian medical colleges.
