Students from Africa to Attend a University in Crimea

T The Russia-African Network University (RAfU), a summer training programme that annually hosts hundreds of African students, will be held this year at a university in the annexation-zone of Crimea, according to Russian education authorities. Although 12 universities are members of the RAfU, the initiative is only being implemented at 10 universities in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, Crimea, and Astrakhan.

The choice of the V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University could be interpreted as Russia's attempt to gain international recognition for its occupation of the region by coercing "neutral" or less developed nations to unintentionally legitimise the annexation.

…the Crimean Federal University was one of the founders of the creation of the Russian-African Network University, so we were given the opportunity to coordinate the RAFU Summer University project, which is now being implemented at the sites of 10 Russian universities…

According to a piece that appeared in a reputable newspaper, "The Crimean Federal University was one of the founders of the creation of the Russian-African Network University, so we were given the opportunity to coordinate the RAFU Summer University project, which is now being implemented at the sites of 10 Russian universities."

In the article, which included a press release from the university, the selected students will receive training in a variety of medical specialties, such as reproductive medicine and "laparoscopic surgery."

From August 29 to September 9 at the Medical Academy of the V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University, specialists will be trained. For the higher education institution in Crimea, this is a first-of-its-kind experience.

According to its description, the RAfU is a platform created to promote and strengthen collaboration between Russia and African nations by enabling universities to "communicate with each other" and plan student academic mobility.
