Technological University of the Shannon Strengthens Educational Ties with Nigeria through New Student Liaison Office in Lagos

I In a significant move towards strengthening educational partnerships between Ireland and Nigeria, the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) has announced the opening of its latest Student Liaison Office in Lagos, Nigeria. The office aims to provide essential support for students from Nigeria and other sub-Saharan countries who aspire to study in Ireland across TUS's six campuses.

The Lagos office will serve as a "direct line" of assistance and support for students, parents, and families of students wishing to study at any of TUS's six campuses in Ireland, further enhancing the accessibility and convenience of the educational journey.

The official inauguration ceremony of the Nigerian Student Liaison Office was attended by His Excellency Peter Ryan, Ambassador of Ireland to Nigeria, who commended TUS for its commitment and investment in fostering stronger ties and opportunities for students from Nigeria and Ireland.

Speaking about the inauguration, President of TUS, Professor Vincent Cunnane, stated, "Over the past six years, TUS has been dedicated to cultivating relationships with African countries. The opening of our Student Liaison Office in Lagos marks a significant milestone in fortifying these bonds. We are fully devoted to expanding our global partnerships to attract international students and researchers to TUS, while also providing international opportunities for our own students, staff, and researchers."

His Excellency Peter Ryan, Ambassador of Ireland to Nigeria, expressed his enthusiasm for the new Student Liaison Office, saying, "Today's opening of the Technological University of the Shannon Student Liaison Office here in Lagos signifies a highly positive step towards building an educational partnership between Ireland and Nigeria. This commitment to fostering academic excellence will shape a brighter future for all, strengthening the bonds between our two countries. I eagerly anticipate the positive impact it will have on the lives of numerous students and the broader educational landscape."

The Lagos office marks the fourth Student Liaison Office for TUS International, joining existing offices in New Delhi, India, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Shanghai, China. This expansion highlights TUS's global focus and commitment to establishing a presence in key regions.

Donnacha McNamara, Vice President of International at TUS, emphasised the significance of the new office, stating, "We are delighted to open our first Student Liaison Office in Nigeria as our goal is to provide a base for Irish students and lecturers who wish to collaborate with African universities. Additionally, we aim to extend support to students from Nigeria and other sub-Saharan countries who aspire to study in Ireland. Our dedication to internationalisation is evident, and this new office is yet another step towards achieving that goal."

Mr. McNamara also shed light on TUS's plans to further enhance the university's presence in South America and Europe through collaborations with its European partners in The Regional University Network (RUN EU).

With the opening of the Student Liaison Office in Lagos, TUS has taken a momentous stride in promoting educational cooperation between Ireland and Nigeria, while simultaneously fostering a global learning environment that encourages exchange and collaboration among students and academics.
