Türkiye Scholarship: Turkey’s Scholarship Program Gets Record Applications

A A new scholarship programme in Turkey appears to be well-liked by foreign students. According to the minister of culture and tourism, Turkey received a record number of applications for its Türkiye Scholarship programme in 2022.

Applications from over 170 different nationalities have been received, which is in line with the rise in international students studying in the country over the past ten years.

According to sources, the increase will undoubtedly lead to a long waiting list because only 4,000 students receive scholarships each year under the programme, with 2,000 enrolled in the graduate stream.

The Minister of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, Nuri Ersoy, remarked about the record number of applications to the Türkiye Scholarship, saying, " When we consider that the number of UN member states is 209, the fact that 15,000 international students are continuing their education from 145 different countries [here] in Turkey, is the clearest indicator of how wide a geography the programme has reached around the world."

Abdullah Eren, the head of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities, agreed with the cultural minister when he said that the Türkiye Scholarship programme takes into account the requirements of Turkey. He added that the scholarship programme considers recommendations from the ministry of foreign affairs and the industry of culture and tourism.

This is not the first time Turkey has encouraged foreign students to come to its shores. In 2021, the government announced that the country would begin to accept high school certificates to admit African students in 2023.
