US Military Open To Funding College Athletes

A According to Sportico, the US Military is contemplating offering athletic scholarships to college athletes in return for participation in military activity. The idea that was conceived by a protection contractor is mutually beneficial to both parties, athletes and the military.

It ensures the army gets a gradual stream of match recruits, while athletic students get funding for their further studies.

In a statement to Sportico, a spokesperson for the Army’s Training and Doctrine Command said, “TRADOC is reviewing the merit of the capabilities presented to address recruiting challenges; but there remain many unanswered questions to work through to fully understand the feasibility and way ahead,” the spokesperson said. “TRADOC remains dedicated to driving improvement and leading change to ensure the Army can deter, fight, and win on any battlefield now and into the future.”

Sources say that top leaders on the Protection Division have already been briefed about the proposal but college sports departments are yet to receive any proposal. When quizzed about the plan, an NCAA spokeswoman denied knowledge about the proposed initiative. In fact, Jack Swarbrick, the athletic director at Notre Dame was in shock over the news, but he was receptive to the idea. Speaking on the topic he said, “We happen to have one of the more vibrant ROTC programs in the country, so we’re already involved in the military.”
