Ukrainians Living in Canada Eligible for Transitional Financial Assistance Payment

U Under the Canada-Ukraine authorisation for emergency travel, Ukrainians living in Canada are eligible to receive $3,000 per person for adults and $1,500 for children aged under 17 years as part of a new funding plan. Those eligible should have valid work, study, temporary resident permit for visitor record under the Canada-Ukraine authorisation for emergency travel.

In a statement, Sean Fraser, Canada's minister of immigration, refugees, and citizenship, said, “Our commitment to Ukrainians fleeing Russia’s illegal war doesn’t stop once they’ve arrived in Canada”.

The Canadian government has launched an online portal through which applications for financial assistance can be submitted. “It is crucially important that Ukrainians fleeing the war in Ukraine are supported as they arrive in Canada.” said Karina Gould, minister of families, children and social development. She added, “Service Canada is committed to delivering this financial assistance as quickly as possible to ensure that families have the necessary support they need as they are welcomed into their new communities.”

The Canadian government recently organised three chartered flights from Poland to bring Ukrainian refugees to Winnipeg, Halifax, and, most recently, Montreal on June 2, 2022. Over the last 30 years, the Canadian Bureau for International Education has worked closely with the Ukrainian government and education partners to build institutional capacity, modernise governance systems, improve transparency, strengthen educational linkages, and make equitable access to citizenship rights the norm.
