University of Liverpool to Twin Educational Aid in Ukraine

U University of Liverpool is one of the 43 institutions helping Ukrainian universities in crisis. Titled “Twin”, the project aims to rebuild campuses and get Ukrainian education back on track post war. From organising Zoom training to restoring broken down campuses, British universities are doing all they can to help Ukraine.

According to a participant, the experience has been both emotional and humbling. In a note, Professor Brown of Liverpool University said. “This is about understanding what these universities need and offering real, practical help.”

…many feel that the war might raise priorities other than education, but the 44 British Universities are hopeful that encouragement to Ukrainian students through online education gets them to finish courses...

With students struggling to find access to education, universities part of the project are helping kids migrate to Britain to keep their learning curve going. However, some members of the project have refrained from going in this direction.

University of Liverpool is one that has refrained from offering scholarships to fleeing Ukrainian students. According to Prof Brown the logic is that if recipients decline to go back home, the project’s motive is lost. Although not taking in students, Liverpool plan to keep SSU students engaged through online education classes. They also plan to take in some SSU staff for training, enabling SSU colleges to teach students back home when the situation is back to normal.

Motivating students to continue education has been a challenge for the group on the project. Many feel that the war might raise priorities other than education. But the 44 British Universities are hopeful that encouragement to Ukrainian students through online education gets them to finish courses. The universities involved are also hopeful of restoring lost campuses back to their glory once the war ends.
