Victoria and New South Wales Governments Push Albanese Government to Close Public School Funding Gap

O Over the past few days, a three-way battle over under funding has been brewing in Australia. New South Wales, Victoria, and Albanese governments are locked in a heated battle over the issue of underfunding by the newly formed federal government.

According to sources, the New South Wales and Victorian governments are urging the Albanese government to increase contributions to close a funding shortfall. Speaking on the issue, federal training minister Jason Clare said that boosting the outcomes of Australian school college students towards worldwide benchmarks and revisiting the needs-based Gonski reforms that aimed to finish inequities within the distribution of public cash will likely be amongst his prime priorities.

…I’ve always said that I would prosecute this matter regardless of who is prime minister – and that’s exactly what I’ll do when the national school reform agreement negotiations commence this November…

Both the NSW and Victorian government agencies have demanded that the newly formed Albanese federal government close the 5% funding gap to tackle underfunding in education.

“I will be seeking a commitment from the federal government that they will lift their funding contribution to NSW public schools by 5%.” said Sarah Mitchell the NSW training minister. Joining the chorus for increased funding is also Victoria’s training minister, James Merlino who said,” I’ve always said that I would prosecute this matter regardless of who is prime minister – and that’s exactly what I’ll do when the national school reform agreement negotiations commence this November.”

The present state-federal four-year faculties funding settlement is due to expire on the finish of subsequent twelve months. Under the settlement, public faculties obtain 20% of the SRS benchmark from the federal government and 75% from the states, making a gap of 5%.
