AFS Intercultural Programs Empowering Women Through STEM Education Scholarships

W Women make up more than half of the college-educated workforce, however only 28% of STEM fields are represented by women. To encourage more women to take up the field, AFS Intercultural Programs is setting up scholarships for women in STEM Education.
Titled AFS Global STEM Accelerators, the course is a full-scholarship, virtual exchange program offered to 150 young women worldwide (ages 15-17) with access to education in sustainability, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths), and social impact.
…through the course, AFS aims to create bigger possibilities for women to contribute to a sustainable future…
Applications for the virtual exchange program are open now through May 15. Refugees and students from displaced populations globally will also be eligible to take the course. Through the course, AFS aims to create bigger possibilities for women to contribute to a sustainable future.
Students that enrol for AFS Global STEM Accelerators program will be equipped with skills such as design thinking, designing, data literacy, and STEM awareness. Participants will also get a chance to improve skills like emotional intelligence, critical thinking, intercultural awareness, and building teamwork.

The AFS and the University of Pennsylvania will award students participating in the program with Advanced Certificate on Global Competence for Social Impact. Besides this, scholars will be invited to join alumni communities offering diverse mentoring opportunities, skills development sessions, and panel discussions. Through the programs, AFS aims to empower young people to become changemakers through STEM.
