American Society for Engineering Education Signs 5 Year Deal with Association of African Universities to Promote Academic Mobility

T The American Society for Engineering Education, one of the country's oldest higher education associations, and the Association of African Universities have partnered to work together on joint initiatives to advance research and academic mobility over the course of five-years.

Sources say that the partnership will strengthen cooperation on commissioned joint research, disseminate educational information and establish ASEE as the AAU's STEM cooperation partner in Africa.

According to reports a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the leaders of the two organisations will concentrate on staff and institutional capacity building, cooperative resource mobilisation, and infrastructure development for the benefit of the partners.

…this collaboration between the AAU and ASEE is envisaged to have a wider and far-reaching impact for faculty, students, networks, and broadly higher education institutions in both Africa and North America…

With the new deal, the AAU stands to benefit the most. This is because ASEE will offer furnished office space in the US. The location will also act as AAU's North American hub, from which all of the organisation's other operations in the developed region of the world will be managed.

According to Olusola Oyewole, secretary-general of the AAU, "This collaboration between the AAU and ASEE is envisaged to have wider and far-reaching impact for faculty, students, networks, and broadly higher education institutions in both Africa and North America."

The agreement's signing will enable the advancement of the two organisations' shared interests and increased collaborations for the benefit of faculty and staff involved in STEM disciplines, according to Norman L. Fortenberry, executive director of ASEE.
