Backed by Clearlake Capital: Discovery Education Buys Pivot Interactives

D Discovery Education, a multinational edtech company supported by Clearlake Capital Group, L.P. (collectively with its affiliates, "Clearlake,") has announced the acquisition of Pivot Interactives SBC, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Pivot Interactives creates dynamic cloud-based activities and labs that actively engage students in the authentic exploration of real scientific phenomena. The company is led by a team of science teachers, practitioners, and students. Terms weren't made public.
The acquisition of Pivot Interactives advances Discovery Education's goal of fostering innovation in the classroom and connecting it to the real world in order to better prepare students for the future. Discovery Education's K-12 platform, Mystery Science, the Science Techbook series, and STEM Connect are just a few of the popular digital resources supporting science education that Pivot Interactives will add to.
…Discovery Education empowers teachers and inspires students around the world through digital content delivered on our platform...
Discovery Education has acquired DoodleLearning earlier this month, and Pivot Interactives is their second purchase this month.
According to Scott Kinney, CEO of Discovery Education, "Discovery Education empowers teachers and inspires students around the world through digital content delivered on our platform." "Pivot Interactives explore concepts using real-life experiments, not animations, unlike other digital interactives on the market, enabling teachers to incorporate phenomena-based learning at any stage of the learning cycle. Discovery Education is now better positioned to increase its impact by giving our partner school systems access to phenomena-based, active learning tools as a result of its acquisition of Pivot Interactives.

In order to launch Pivot Interactives, physics professor Matthew Vonk and chief executive officer of Pivot Peter Bohacek created a library of interactive video-based activities that were partially funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation. The co-founders started working with their own students to create direct measurement videos that let instructors and pupils escape the confines of the classroom.
Over 1 million students are currently being engaged with phenomena and science practises by teachers all over the world using Pivot Interactives. The award-winning platform from Pivot Interactives will carry on innovating to transform science education as part of the Discovery Education family of services.
Mr. Bohacek expressed his excitement at joining the Discovery Education family. "I started experimenting with incorporating interactive video into my classroom practise back in 2012. The outcomes were so encouraging that I felt compelled to keep looking into ways to increase the functionality of interactive video, which is how Pivot Interactives was founded. This new chapter and the chance to increase the impact of these resources excite me.
