India and Germany Agree on Mobility Partnership

I India and Germany have agreed a migration and mobility partnership. The decision is likely to enable the “mutual mobility” of students, professionals and research between the two countries. After the announcement, the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “I am confident that the Comprehensive Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement between India and Germany will facilitate movement between the two countries.”

Adding to what the Indian PM said, chancellor Olaf Scholz clarified that the migration and mobility partnership is a “success” of talks in Berlin on top of agreements that cover sustainable development and climate protection.

During the meeting, both nations agreed to support each another’s higher education internationalisation ambitions. The key focus of the agreement is to strengthen the dual structures for vocational training, both nations agreed. With the relation of the Goethe-Instituts, the Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienstes (DAAD), the University Grants Commission and the All India Council for Technical Education, the two nations share a strong cooperative education policy.

The two nations plan to strengthen their partnership at the International Higher Education Dialogue conference in May where France will also be attending. Double Degree programs with the aim to publish a guide for double/joint degree programs in the Indo-German context have also been planned according to Scholz.
