India and UK: Strike an Agreement to Recognise Each Other's Academic Credentials

T To increase prospects for students in India and the UK, the UK and India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to allow reciprocal recognition of academic credentials. This agreement will apply to both countries' doctoral, master's, and undergraduate degrees in higher education. As a result of this memorandum, upper secondary education credentials from India will henceforth be accepted as equivalent to those needed to enroll in UK higher education institutions.

Additionally, all UK degrees, including Masters degrees, will now be fully recognised in India. This will enable Indian students to apply for post-doctoral degrees when they return from the UK, something they were previously unable to do.

…UK and India also agreed to renew a commitment for the mutual recognition of the Seafarers' Certificate of Competency and sign two more Memorandums of Understanding to carry out commitments made in the Enhanced Trade Partnership…

Unless cancelled by any party, the MoU will remain in effect for a period of five years and will then automatically renew for additional periods of five years indefinitely. However, students can be confident that the equivalence awarded during the MoU's validity period will not be impacted by its discontinuation.

In addition, the UK and India also agreed to renew a commitment for the mutual recognition of the Seafarers' Certificate of Competency and sign two more Memorandums of Understanding to carry out commitments made in the Enhanced Trade Partnership. The taskforce will help Indian nurses and nursing associates who want to train and work in the NHS.
