India and UK Reach Historic Agreement on Recognizing Higher Education Qualifications
T The United Kingdom and India have agreed to officially recognise each other's higher education qualifications, a move described as a landmark, historic agreement. The news comes as excellent news for Indian students studying in the United Kingdom.
Under the memorandum of understanding, British A-levels and equivalent courses, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees will be recognised in India under the memorandum of understanding, which means graduates of UK institutions will be able to apply for postgraduate qualifications or government jobs in the South Asian country.
According to news reports, the move adds to the "fantastic reputation" that UK universities have around the world, as stated by the UK's International Trade Secretary, Anne-Marie Trevelyan. Industry estimates that each non-EU student in the UK is worth around £109,000 to the economy. Furthermore, the most recent UCAS application data shows a 20% increase in applications from India for the coming academic year.

Speaking further, trade Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan said, “Now, we are delighted to deliver on our promise to unblock barriers to trade between our two nations and make UK higher education even easier to access and more appealing to Indian students.”
Talking about the landmark agreement, James Cleverly, UK education minister, told reporters, "The agreement builds on the UK-India partnership and indicates that it removes barriers so even more of the best and brightest students from India can study here, boosting our economy and enriching our campuses and communities."
The Memorandum of Understanding is part of the UK-India Enhanced Trade Partnership, which former Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed to last year.
The agreement is not just beneficial to Indian students, according to a written communication from the UK government, the agreement will allow more students to study in India. The notification also said that South Asian countries are a popular destination for UK students participating in the Turing Scheme.
